Story

In Beyond the Sea, players take control of Trace, a lone human who has awakened from stasis in the heart of an abandoned deep-sea research institute. The facility, once an experimental city of tomorrow, now sits as an artifact of forgotten dreams for the future. If Trace wishes to survive, they must escape from the city and return to the surface before the facility’s power runs out for good! The world is cold and lonely, but Trace finds companionship and assistance from their partner, Ready-Bot, and the facility’s robotic caretakers. However, not all of the city’s inhabitants are welcoming to strangers, many have become corrupted by the facility's AI maintenance system, MER-4000, and will viciously attack anyone deemed as a threat to the city. Trace must now fight to save not only themself, but also their quirky mechanical friends.

Mechanics & Gameplay

Core Pillars

Exploration:

  • Players will explore the overworld charting their own path, finding secrets, and the most optimal navigation routes to save on time.

Time &  Resource Management:

  • Players have a limited amount of time to complete the game's main objectives, as every 10 minutes an in-game day passes. Depending on the Player's chosen dificulty they will only have 12-36 in-game days to complete the game's main objectives.

Projectile-Based Combat:

  • The player will use a variety of ranged weapons to do battle with the baddies that occupy the world of Beyond the Sea. Players will run, dodge, and blast their way through hordes of hostile enemies.

Character Interaction & Humor:

  • The player's secondary objective besides escaping the facility, is to save the many quirky robots who call the city home. Each bot has a distinct personality and once saved will aid the player on their journey with a variety of helpful effects.
